GRITPROP INVESTMENTS (Pty) Ltd is a property investment holding and development company based in Cape Town, South Africa. It is wholly owned by Martin Wragge who, in a career spanning 45-years as CEO of various listed and unlisted entities, has developed more than 5,000,000 square metres of commercial, industrial, residential and retail space in addition to 40-hectare RATANGA JUNCTION, the first fully fledged theme Park in South Africa, and FOREST PARK, a 56-hectare theme and leisure Park in Yinchuan, Ningxia Province, China.
Gritprop’s principle activity is in the development of regionally dominant shopping centres of which Wragge has developed or re-developed more than 30, the biggest being 141,000sq m (GLA) KISS WATER CENTRE in Yinchuan, Ningxia, China, CANALWALK, 136,000 sq m (GLA) in Cape Town and TYGERVALLEY, 89,000sq m (GLA) in Bellville, both the latter being in South Africa. He is currently (September 2016) bringing to completion the development of +-40,000sq m GLA MARKET PLACE in Bolton in the UK in association with Moorgarth, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tradehold Limited, a company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange of which Wragge is also a Director. Principle Tenants include DEBENHAMS, NEXT, NEW LOOK, RIVER ISLAND, ZARA, H&M, BOOTS, TOPSHOP, THE LIGHT CINEMAS, NANDOS, PREZZO’S and AMAZONIA, a themed children’s leisure centre.
Wragge acquired a stake in GRITPROP (then COBROLE LIMITED) in 1987 and acquired full control in 2004. Inter alia Gritprop owns, directly and/or indirectly, 100% of PIER 14 Shopping Centre (+-32,000sq m GLA, 400-parking bays) in Port Elizabeth, 50% of MOUNTAIN MILL Shopping Centre (42,000sq m GLA, 2,200 parking bays) in Worcester, 88% of an entity developing a commercial township on some 12-hectares of commercially zoned and serviced land, 50% of the 20,000sq m GLA extension in 2017 to MOUNTAIN MILL Shopping Centre on some 9-hectares of additionally acquired land, 50% of a development of some 140-apartments in 2017 on some 8-hectares of residentially zoned and serviced waterfront land and 21% of +- 2,000 houses on some 200-hectares of zoned and partially serviced residential land, the first phase of which will be completed by the end of 2016.
Gritprop through Wragge and associated entities, developed 2,000,000 square metres of commercial, retail and residential space in Yinchuan, Ningxia Province, China between 2001 and 2011. This included 8,000 apartments, the 141,000sq m KISS WATER Shopping Centre, multiple high- and mid-rise office blocks, 441 luxury waterside villas and FOREST PARK, a theme and leisure park covering 56-hectrares.
